Your digital financial assistant had her work cut out also this year. 

+11’000 clients have chosen Selma as their digital financial assistant who gets to watch over their money 24/7. But of course, Selma is not alone. The Selma crew has grown in 2022 to support her and you in all financial topics. 

Last time we counted, we had 30 people roam around the project management tools, Google Meet calls, and our internal communication apps. What a ride – we doubled the team size and couldn't be happier.

Investment management, compliance & product

As a growing company in the finance sector, there are three areas we currently invest heavily in: investment management, compliance & product. And by "investing" we mean looking for the best talents who want to shape the world of investing and financial planning with us. 🌟

Daniel Trum moved from UBS' Chief Investment Office to Selma in order to help democratize investing for everyone and is now leading Selma's investment management.

Dominik Seiler joined Selma as the "Head of operations, compliance, and risk", making sure Selma is set up well for upcoming regulations and changes in the banking sector of Switzerland.

Rohit Acharya will work on the right product updates at the right time for Selma's clients as the new "Chief product officer".

You & Selma 

Although this year was everything but easy when it comes to markets and finances, over 70% of you have continued investing and topped up your investments in 2022. Thereby, you totally followed the Selma “Keep calm and invest” philosophy – the best way to build wealth long-term.

This year, of course, also raised many questions for clients and our heroes without capes a.k.a the customer support team was by your side all the way.

In many, many phone calls, in +6’800 chat conversations and +15’000 email conversations they answered all your questions and tried to navigate you through all your concerns during the difficult times on the market.

Against the cliché

The old cliché the financial world is dominated by older men is unfortunately still true. The average age of an investor is +40 around the globe and over 70% of investors in Switzerland are men.  

Our mission is to make investing accessible for everyone. Therefore, we organized many live and online events especially for women in 2022. The result: 38% of Selma investors 2022 are women. Women power for the win! 🎉

Generally speaking the Selma clients are very diverse. For example, the youngest Selma client is 18, the oldest is 84. Also against the cliché – two thirds of the Selma clients are under 40.

Closed funding round of CHF 7 million

Even in quite difficult times Selma Finance has proven to flourish and is presenting a valuable business case for Switzerland and Europe.

Investors continue to believe in Selma and thus we were able to ramp up the Series A investment round of CHF 7 million. 🎉

Selma is available in French

Selma took a high-intensive French class and is now even more accessible for French speakers.

About one-quarter of all Swiss residents live in the Romandy. This was reason enough for Selma to learn a new language. In the end, finance topics are complicated and confusing enough – so who wants to bother doing this in a foreign language after all? 🤷

Selma “Learn” re-launch

The Selma “blog” got a new, fresh look during 2022 and is now known as Selma “Learn.” It is not only Selma’s vision to make investing as easy as possible, but also to convey knowledge and let you know what is going on in the world of finance. With a lot of articles, tips and tricks you’ll definitely have fun learning about everything there is around finance. No need to ponder over weird terms and feeling like all finance topics require a finance degree. 🎓 

Especially our easy explained Market Updates seem to have touched your interest in the past year. Stay tuned for more of them in 2023!

iOS and Android app updates

If you use the Selma mobile app regularly, you probably already noticed that the developer team is working hard to improve your experience. This year brought

• A clean performance chart, to show you exactly what is going on with your investments
• Nerdy stats with exciting and revealing numbers and info you don’t want to miss

Now you are well equipped and can check easily how your investments are doing – on the go.

Refer your friends with a few taps

Another addition to the mobile app is the referral program. Easily refer Selma to a friend via the mobile app. By the way, did you know that with every referred friend you earn money?

Security Audit:

Selma takes the security of your money very seriously. 2022 was a year with a “Security audit” – we don’t want to brag, but let’s say if we were in school we definitely would have gotten an A+++ in our report. 🥳

Algorithm update:

The Selma algorithm got an update for everyone whose financial situation allows a “riskier” approach to investing. Investor profiles can now include up to 95% in stocks by excluding bonds from portfolios.
